About Our Practice


     Occupational Medicine Center of Tuscarawas County opened in April of 1994 by Nicholas Varrati, MD and his wife Barbara Varrati RN, MSN to provide occupational services to the county. Over the next 20 years, those services have increased to fit the needs of the community.


     Our services further expanded in 2004 with the addition of Serenity Pain Management center to provide quality care for patients with chronic pain.


     We are located at the intersection of West High Ave. and Third Street in downtown New Philadelphia.

Meet Our Staff

Nicholas Varrati, MD Medical Director Board Certified Pain Medicine

Dr. Varrati is a graduate of Duquesne University with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree, and the Ohio State College of Medicine. He was formerly director of Occupational Medicine at Mercy Hospital in Canton. He has also served as medical director of Coshocton Occupational Medicine Center. He received his Board Certification in Pain Management in 2004. He currently serves as the Medical Director at Occupational/Serenity Pain Management Center.

Michele Dawson, RN, MSN, CNP

Michele graduated from Kent State University in 1991and received her Master's degree in Nursing from the University of Akron in 2001. She is a Certified Adult Nurse Practitioner. Her nursing background includes oncology and hospice care. She has been a member of our practice since 2010.

Barbara Varrati, RN, MSN

Barbara is a graduate of Ohio State University and received her Master’s degree in Nursing from Case Western Reserve University. Her nursing background includes coronary care and infection control. She has served as past Chairman of the Tuscarawas County Chamber of Commerce as well as Clinical Instructor of Nursing at Kent State Tuscarawas.
